Description:
#4919 Colt 1885 RBFMCB 38WCF, 19XXX range (1887), very good bore (about a “7”) and VG smooth action, as well. Early “Open-Top” frame, made without the sliding dust cover, correct Colt rear sight and Rocky Mountain style front. VG smooth grey-brown metal with some slight staining and minor roughness on the frame, but the Rampant Colt logo on the left side is fully visible, as is the barrel address. VG wood with average wear and about 50% wear to the forearm checking. This model of Colt was made as an agreed to non-lever replacement for the 1883 lever action Colt-Burgess rifle when Winchester complained and threatened to start making revolvers if Colt continued making their lever action 1883 Model. But for any of those who lucky enough to have shot these Lightning rifles, they sure were aptly named! The speed of cocking and emptying the magazine on these slide actioned rifles is much greater than a lever gun. So, if you have a lever gun, do NOT get into a “lead spitting contest” with some fellow who has a Colt Lightning! They are “wicked quick and lightning fast” and he will beat you like a red-headed step-child! About VG-VG+ $1975
