This listing is for an Ansley H. Fox A Grade SxS 12 Gauge Double. The action functions as it should, with a tight, snappy breech-lock. The finish is still very nice on this over century-old shotgun.
There is tarnishing on the action, usage wear on the connections of both sets of barrels, and slight scuff and age marks in the wood of the stock as shown in the included photos
This Fox Double appears mechanically sound, it is a solid, clean, and tight A-Grade Fox.
The included paperwork is a letter from the A.H. Fox Shotguns Arms Historian with a description of the original state of the firearm along with information of where it was shipped from from factory
\"Your double was completed for inventory at the A.H. Fox, Philadelphia plant and was subsequently shipped on November 5, 1910. The original consignee is recorded as the Van Deren Hardware Co. No address was provided.
The \"A\" Grade was the first in a line of graded shotguns offered by the Fox Gun Co. The effective but simple engraving pattern was meant to appeal to discriminating sportsman that wanted more than basic field grade. This grade could be built to order relative to barrels, stocks, triggers, ejectors, etc. Stocks could be had in half, full pistol grip or straight grip at no additional cost.
This grade was in the catalog from 1905 until 1942, making it one of the grades offered for the longest period of time. The basic price in 1910 was $50.00.\
