Description:
#4842 Colt 1862 Pocket-Navy, 3”x38RF octagon barrelled conversion, 46XX range, matching numbers. This gun was supposedly seen by the late R. Bruce McDowell (who wrote the conversion book) some years back and the owner was told it very likely could be the correct factory barrel length …although it seems to me that the address is suspiciously close to the front sight and that Colt would have used the two-line address as seen on the more common round barrel versions. This variant may need some good research to determine the originality of this length. It is also the less common version with the loading gate and NO ejector. Grips are about fine and have much varnish remaining, factory nickel finish is about 70% intact (the left side of the barrel nickel being worn thin and with only 10% remaining and some freckle pitting there), the straps with 70% thinning silver wash, the cylinder scene about 80%+ intact. Fine mechanics, VG bore. Overall this is a VERY nice, and potentially a very rare conversion of the Pocket-Navy. About Fine+ overall. $1695
