OTTOMAN PERSIAN KILIJ AND SCABBARD WITH KORANIC CALIGRAPHY BLADE AND MOUNTS CIRCA 1830’S-40’S. 38” overall with 33” blade decorated with Koranic verses in Persian calligraphy of the type seem on Persian helmets and plate armour elements. Brass hilt and grip wrap. Guard and scabbard ring mounts also with calligraphy inscriptions. Leather covered wood scabbard with large brass mounts decorated with Persian mythical animals and Islamic “Tree Of Life” and other floral designs. Recently acquired from an old collection and in unrestored condition. Pommel cap damaged and needing restoration and scabbard with dried leather having minor flaking. Excellent attic condition otherwise. Scarce.
