PLURIBUS UNUM/EAGLE” and martial motifs but no “U.S.” patriotic motifs. Gold plated mounts on both the guard and the silver plated steel scabbard. Original gilded grip wire and shark skin grip wrap. Superb condition overall with most of the gold finish and blade polish. Blade crisply etched in a panel above the ricasso “AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS”. Higher quality and more ornate mounts. Lack of “U.S.” may indicate it was intended for an officer in a militia regiment-possibly Southern. Scarce and brilliant example. Price: $3,500 |
