Description:
Import Services
Please note we only engage in the import of sporting rifles and shotguns, we do not handle the import of handguns or automatic firearms.
To initiate the import process we will gather specific information on the firearms from yourself or the foreign seller. With this information, we will submit the import permit application to our Federal Government for review. Upon approval, we will work directly with the foreign exporter providing them with all import documentation they may need in order to obtain an export permit. After the import permit and export permit are validated, the foreign exporter can organize shipment to the US. Our Customs will clear the shipment with US Customs and post any fees associated with the import including US Customs Duty. The firearms will then be transferred to our facilities where we will stamp the barrels with our name, city and state. This stamp is a Federal requirement that must be placed conspicuously on each firearm imported. Upon completion of our import stamp, we will provide you with the final invoice for our import service. When we receive payment in full, we will arrange for your firearms to be shipped to your local firearms dealer so that you can take final possession. If you possess a New Jersey Firearms ID card you can take possession directly from Griffin & Howe.
The details needed to submit an import application are:
  • Your name, address, telephone & e-mail
  • Name and address of the foreign shipper
  • Name and address of the foreign seller
  • The following information on each firearm:

    • Make
    • Model
    • Manufacturer, model, power, value & serial number of scope, if appropriate
    • Serial Number
    • Gauge or Caliber
    • Barrel Length
    • Overall Length
    • New or Used condition
    • Value of each firearm
Export Services
Please note we only engage in the export of sporting rifles and shotguns, we do not handle the export of handguns or automatic firearms.
Permanent Export
Griffin & Howe can assist with exporting your sporting shotguns or rifles. The most common export transactions are those of an international sale. We can assist whether we work directly with the foreign purchaser or the US seller. Our export services can also be utilized by an individual who is moving abroad and would like to take their firearms with them. In order to initiate the export process, an import permit must be provided to us from the country we will be exporting to. If the country does not require an import permit, we will need a letter from that country’s government authorizing that an import permit is not required. In addition, you will be responsible for knowing the local laws and regulations in regards to acquiring and possessing firearms in the destination country.
Once we have been provided the import permit, we will request the delivery of the firearms to our facility. After reviewing and confirming all details on the firearms we will apply for the necessary export permit and work with the foreign importer to arrange delivery.
In addition to the firearm’s details, we will need the following information to submit the export permit application:
  • U.S. Seller’s name, address, telephone number and email
  • U.S. Source’s (the person/entity shipping to Griffin & Howe) name, address, telephone number and email
  • U.S. Carrier’s name (the courier service that will be used to ship to Griffin & Howe, UPS, FedEx, etc.)
  • Foreign Clearing Agent’s name, address, telephone number and email
  • Foreign Importer’s name, address, telephone number and email
  • Foreign End User’s name, address, telephone number and email
Temporary Export – Sport Hunting & Sport Shooting
If you do not wish to hand carry your firearms, we can assist with temporarily exporting your sporting rifles or sporting shotguns for a hunting or shooting trip abroad. You will need to provide us with an import permit from the country we are shipping to in order to initiate the process. We will then obtain the necessary export licenses and documentation to send your firearms abroad. In most cases we can work with the foreign importer to have your firearms delivered at the estate or outfitter where your shoot or hunt will be held. Please note that there are countries where we cannot assist with temporary exports for hunting or shooting due to their government regulations.
Whether we ship your temporary export or you hand carry yourself, remember to always obtain a US Customs Form 4457 (Certificate of Registration for Personal Effects) for each of your firearms before leaving the US. This certificate allows you, upon return to the US, to clear your firearms with US Customs without an import permit as well as not paying US Customs duty.
