Description:
With a caliber of .58 cal., and an artillery length 33” barrel with a partially bright about good bore showing light pitting throughout the rifling, but far above average. The metal surfaces have aged to a light-moderately oxidized gray brown patina with heavy pitting on the buttplate, the balance only moderate. The lockplate markings remain clear with “1864” behind the hammer and all other markings are a lighter refistration. The walnut stock rates perhaps very good as cleaned, the nose of a brass cap, with an added coat of finish,and some scattered light handing marks. There are no visible cartouches and what appears to be “HA” or perhaps “TA” is carved in the right side of the buttstock. The original rear sight has been removed leaving a shallow divot,with an istalled plate of an early peep sight . With a new nipple and bead front sight and new peep rear sight have been installed, is strong and crisp rhat works well. Possibly a Conferderate reworked late war captured gun that would make a very good re-enactor weapon. Comes with a cupped ram-rod.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
