ANTIQUE THOMAS SHORT OF SHEFFIELD IVORY MINIATURE FOLDING KNIFE CIRCA 1850. 2 5/8" overall with two blades. Both blades stamped in tiny letters 'T.F. Short & Co./ Sheffield". Thomas Short featured prominently in Sheffield bowie making scene in the mid 1800's. Several of his bowies have sold recently at that had been made for the Australian market which is unique. Very petit tiny nickel mounts and escutcheon plate. Blades are very sharp and tight. Extremely high quality with ivory grip panels with a tiny sliver missing and small stress fractures around rivets. Cannot be helped as panels are so small. Not more 2-3mm thick. See 'The Sure Defense/ The Bowie Knife Book", page 53, by Kenneth Burton for reference to Thomas Short and some recent Rock Island s for same.
