ORIGINAL CONFEDERATE STATES RICHMOND ARMORY U.S. MODEL 1816 SOCKET BAYONET DATED 1864. 19” o/a with 16” blade and early style short socket arm with abrupt angle and no bridge. Inner base stamped “US/JB”. See Reilly, “AMERICAN SOCKET BAYONETS AND SCABBARDS”, page 44, figure B58. Socket stamped “CS/64” for the Confederate States Armory in Richmond and the date for 1864 and using the same letter and numeral stamps as seen on 1864 dated C.S. Richmond lock plates. Paul Davies discusses these bayonets in his book “C.S. RICHMOND ARMORY” page 197 for those that were “assembled” in 1864. Absolutely original including the stamp and very good condition. Thousands of old model U.S. bayonets in Virginia in the Richmond and VMI Arsenals at the beginning of the Civil War.
