Description:
ITALIAN 16TH OR EARLY 17TH CENTURY CINQUEDEA. 28 ½” o/a with 22” double edged blade measuring 3 ¼” in width at the guard. Blade stamped with maker’s touch mark at mid point on both sides. A mark almost identical To this one is cataloged in Dudley S. Hawtrey Gyngell’s “ARMOURERS MARKS” pg. 75, row 3, second from left, but without attribution except being that of an Italian Swordmaker. Fine with mellowed bone scales having filigreed rivets with one missing. Excellent original patina with deep grey color and some minor salt and pepper.
