Description:
#5000 Colt 1878 D/A, 4”x45COLT, 31xxx range (1893), scarce so-called Sheriffs Model and made without having an ejector system. This early D/A ’78 model was known to be quite “tempermental”(but yet not as tempermental as the Model 1877) and having mechanical issues. However, this Colt has VG crisp mechanics and a VG bore (about a 7 on a scale of 10). It is mostly smooth metal with just some light erosion as can be seen on the barrel, but also having good flashes of original blue in several places and VG strong markings including the correct two-line barrel address, etc. The grips are VG+ with none of the usual guide pin chips at the rear (although they are browning slightly from sun exposure) and have 10-15% wear. The often lost or removed lanyard ring is still intact. These very uncommon ejectorless 1878 Sheriff Models are not easily found and this one is a decent VG+ specimen, worthy of any modest to semi-advanced collection. $3250
