Description:
#4872 Colt 1860 Army, "Thuer" conversion, 8"x44Thuer with a very decent bore considering the hard-used exterior condition. The action is somewhat sticky at times, but does seem to be functioning in a reasonable fashion. The exterior has dings and detriments ranging from smooth metal to heavy deep pitting, and while the cylinder scene is all but gone, the rest of the markings are pretty good and all readable, including the serial numbers, which are entirely all mixed although all parts being in the late Army range when these Thuer conversions were made (c,1869-71). One thing is certain, and that is that this is a GENUINE Thuer conversion adapter ring, (as many Thuers are faked). Just look at the overall condition and one can easily see there was no faking this extremely rare Colt. This is simply a VERY rare Colt conversion that was VERY hard used and abused to some extent. Like most conversions, these were used extensively in the SouthWest and Mexico during the early post-Civil War years where they were cannibalized and pieced together to keep them working far beyond their useful lives. And being as the condition is pretty much universal over the entire revolver, it is a near certainty that it has been together as a mixed gun for most of its 140 year life. You will search far and wide before ever even SEEING another Thuer Army, and if and when one shows up for sale, it will be a danged site more money than this poor old cannon ....probably double or triple the price or more. Oh, and while many won't care about this point, one of the previous owners made some insert brass cylinder liners which he loaded and was actually shooting this gun! (....certainly not something that I'd recommend!!) So if you are a Colt collector with a modest budget and modest guns, here is probably your ONLY chance to ever own a real Thuer conversion at under $10,000+. Certainly not "The Queen of The Hop" ....but she is a THUER!! There are lots of pictures of this neat ole gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. About Good as described. $3295
