Description:
Handsome example of the famous Scott Block Safety Hammerless shotgun popularized by Holland & Holland with their Climax model made for them by Scott. This Scott, no. 59722, was made in 1898 and has the Patent Crystal Indicators. Double triggers and extractors. Auto safety. Tight on face. An interesting and unique action. Nice handling. Weighs 6lb 11oz.   ***   The 28” nitro steel barrels have been professionally re-blacked and have 2-1/2” chambers. They are topped by a raised solid gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “W & C Scott & Son Makers & Patentees 78 Shaftesbury Avenue London”. They are London proofed for 1-1/8” loads. There is some residual pitting in the barrels typical of guns from the era but nothing excessive and the wall thickness is fine. The right barrel is bored 0.736 with a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet chokes. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The left barrels is bored 0.735 and also has a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. Great choking for upland gunning.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of nicely figured French walnut. The buttstock appears to be a re-stock but the forearm is original. Both the buttstock and forearm show some wear and handling marks. Checkering is worn as well. However, the stock is sound. Stock dimensions are 14-7/16” including a 7/8” horn butt plate by 1-1/2” by 2”. Neutral cast.  ***    This is an interesting and great handling upland gun. It is mechanically sound but shows some cosmetic wear. Own a piece of gunmaking history.   ***   Please note that photographs are part of the description. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when the item is delivered to your FFL dealer or to a shipping address designated by the purchaser in the case of a gun classified as an Antique.
