The 8th Hussars was one of the units to make up the light Brigade. Sergeant  Brien served in the Crimean war in 1854. He was Court Marshalled for being drunk on Duty in December of 1854 and demoted to a Private. The Crimean war took place between 1853 – 1856 between the British along with other nations facing the Russians on the Crimean peninsula which is located in modern day Ukraine.
