Very fine example with probably 20% of the original blue finish on the barrel. This is a very sharp gun. This gun has the early barrel address. The cylinder scene is still visible. The grips are very good with some of the original varnish. The back strap is inscribed “Lt. Col. L. Doherty, XIIIth Lt Drg The gift of W. Preston. Esqre" Lieutenant Colonel Doherty served in the Crimean war. He participated in many battles and was even wounded. He finished out the entire Crimean Campaign. William Preston Esquire was Secretary of the Navy in 1850 and retired in the Bahamas. This gun comes with two giant binders regarding both men and their service.
