Description:
"

This unit-marked Scottish third model flintlock Brown Bess musket was made circa 1820 in Edinburgh. The overall length is approx. 55.25"". The 75 caliber barrel has a dark smooth bore. The barrel has a smooth brown patina and has what appears to be FO proof marks at the chamber. The barrel at the muzzle is thin. The lock is marked THOMSON. There are five Thomsons listed as working as gunmakers, gunsmiths, and lock makers in Edinburgh circa 1820. The touch hole is oversized from use. The lock and cock have a brown patina. The brass nose cap, thimbles, side plate, trigger guard, and butt plate are very good. The butt plate tang is unit marked D over 95 to the rear and 7-W I F(?) t to the frontĀ  The stock is very good with use and storage dents and dings, a small chip along the barrel on the left about half way, and no major issues. The swivels are absent and the ramrod is present. The action functions correctly. The British third model Brown Bess muskets are fairly common but the Scottish muskets are rarely seen. If you collect early 19th century Scottish weapons, this one is for you.
