Description:
A 19th Century long barrel converted smooth bore .40 cal.,with a 39” octagon barrel with a mostly bright about very good bore. The barrel and lock have aged to a dark gray patina with some light-moderate pitting on the hammer and around the French-style side lug conversion and some overall spots of old light oxidation and pinprick pitting. The brass mountings have aged to a lightly-tarnished goldenrod patina with numerous tiny impact and light handling marks throughout. The lockplate is marked “Warranted” in front of the hammer and with game birds to the rear and is slant assembled in the lock; could be a replacement? The smooth American butternut? hardwood fullstock with scant left side cheekpiece rates good as chips and cracks on either side of the barrel small filled repairs along the forend. Tthe hammer skirts are chipped, the sights are intact, a contemporary hardwood ramrod with brass tip is included and the action is functional, with a high nipple. A fancy brass patch box is present, and would make a very good over the mantle gun! When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
