Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are over the top proud to offer this extremely rare late first generation Colt Single Action Army chambered in .38 Special. Although it is a very common caliber in modern revolvers, only 25 were made in the first generation SAA. Shipped in the year of our Lord 1931, she looks good for being 91 years old. These later first genny Colts usually had an easier life than the guns of the Old West, and this wheel gun is no exception. The original blue is fairly strong, with some losses around the muzzle, backstrap, and trigger guard. There are generous amounts of muted case colors, and are more vivid in protected areas. The bore of the gunfighter length 5 1/2 inch barrel is great, never having seen black powder. She has all 4 clicks, and locks up tight. A cylinder turn ring is about the only detraction. The stampings are clear and sharp. Numbers match on frame and grip frames, and assembly numbers match on the frame and loading gate. The good fitting grips are scratch numbered to the gun with the last 4 of the serial number, with a little wear, especially on the left side. The rear of the cylinder bears the last 2 digits. There is no inspector mark in the hammer slot. All of these features are correct for 1931, and the Colt Archive letter is the icing on the cake. An important change occurred in '31, which is the introduction of the square slot rear sight, and the matching square edge front sight. Now, if you really know Colts, there is another interesting feature on this revolver. From 1926 until 1936, the single line address roll stamp had the "broken O", caused by a piece of the stamp breaking off, and Colt continued to use it in their usual frugal ways. One last nugget, this is the oldest Colt letter we have seen, hand typed on a manual typewriter in 1963. All in all, this adds up to one of the most desirable first generation Colts that you can own.
