"Serial Number 1442. Made in 1848. 44 caliber. With a 7 ½" barrel. Gun is in very good condition. No original finish remains, but the metal is nice and sharp. Metal has scattered light pitting. Cylinder scene is still visible. What makes this gun interesting is this gun is it a very early serial number of 1442, yet has features of a 3rd model dragoon. The gun is all matching. There is a shadow of a previous number on the barrel. While this gun has a first model serial number and a first model cylinder, the rest of the features are third model including the cut for stock feature. We believe this gun was a left over frame assembled at a later date. Very interesting Colt 1st Model / 3rd Model Dragoon!
