Description:

This is a Starr Arms Co. Model 1863 Army single action revolver, made in 1864 in New York City. The production run was from 1863 to 1865 with the single action replacing the difficult to use and maintain double action. This was part of the contract given in October 1863 for 25,000 units. The Starr was mostly used in the western campaign and had an interesting shape and frame yet is a natural fit in my hand. As a cap and ball shooter one other feature I noticed in it's design is this revolver should never have the dreaded cap jam. A single screw is removed and then the barrel rotates down to release the cylinder.
This one carries the serial number 39107 and was made in mid 1864. Overall condition is very good considering it's age with a good bore with minor pitting. The barrel is 8" and is the usual 6 shot .44. It is fully functional and has at least 50% of it's bluing along with natural patina.

At 76 I have to start thinning my collection and passing them on to those that appreciate what I have collected over the years. I also know I have more latitude in selling an antique but even those I'll rather ship to an FFL, I hope you understand.
