Description:
Remington U.S. Model 1841 Percussion Rifle...LAYAWAY?
.54 caliber. 33" round barrel secured by two flat brass spring-retained barrel bands. SN: NSN. Browned and color casehardened finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Patchbox still has spare nipple . Single shot muzzleloading percussion military rifle. Lock marked in three horizontal lines forward of the hammer: REMINGTON'S/HERKIMER/N.Y. Tail of lock marked in two vertical lines U.S./1852. Tang with matching 1852 date, breech with US/JH/P inspection marks and left barrel flat is stamped STEEL. Only the weak outline of one cartouche is visible on the counterpane. Rifle has been altered to accept a saber bayonet with a screw attached keyed lug added to the right side of the barrel, an alteration performed for the State of New Hampshire on 961 Model 1841 Rifles that were sold to New Hampshire by Massachusetts.  Colt alteration type clamping bayonet lug has been added to the gun. This lug is not numbered as Colt lugs typically were to match the rifle they were added to. Rifle retains its original fixed rear sight, brass blade front sight, both sling swivels and an iron ramrod of the type associated with many altered Mississippi Rifle to better load them with elongated ball ammunition.

Condition:
Good. Metal with a mottled and moderately oxidized brown and gray patina. Markings in metal mostly clear and legible. Metal with scattered pitting and surface roughness, most prominent at the breech. Some lightly scattered surface rust is present as well. Brass with some verdigris. Mechanically functional, bore dark, good, with strong rifling some pitting snd a foggy appearance. Stock with moderate wear, sanded with soft edges and numerous scattered bumps, dings and mars. 2nd FIREARM SHIPS FREE, WITH THIS ONE....S/H #55....Thanks....Greg  cp
