Description:
Remington – Hepburn .38-55. Serial number 8255 (appears 2x, on tang and underside of barrel) wears a 30-inch octagon-to-round barrel (.875-inch muzzle diameter) with a recessed crown and hooded post front sight. Additional features include a color case receiver, metal forearm cap and butt plate, folding tang-mounted aperture rear sight and a checkered pistol grip. MARKINGS: Caliber appears 2x (underside of barrel forward of the forearm cap and beneath the forearm on the lower flat), “Remington Arms Co. Ilion NY” rides the top flat, “Hepburns Pat. Oct 7 1879” shows on the lower left receiver and the number 23270 plus an “anchor” is on the lower flat just ahead of the receiver. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 9.2 pounds and length-of-pull is 14.0 inches. CONDITION: The bore is good overall, with viable rifling and scattered light pitting. Barrel finish is approximately 70 percent, with some thinning/browning and areas of light roughness from tarnish. Receiver colors are approximately 40 percent overall, with general fading and over the top, tang and guard areas, along with spots of tarnish. The aperture disc shows some dimples on its face. Cap and plate silver is approximately 60 percent with some scratches on the plate. Wood is approximately 80 percent overall with sharp checkering, a few small impressions and what is either tiny finish lift or hairline showing at the tang (will stabilize upon request). Markings are also tack sharp and mechanics of the action are strong and positive. The price is firm and layaway is available. Trades for fine sporting rifles (particularly customs, rimfires and dangerous game calibers) and handguns will be respectfully considered. $7,500 plus shipping.
