Description:
This is a post-ban MAK 90 in 7.62x39. It was imported by K-Sports Imports, Inc. It comes with the original box, 2 x 5-round magazines, 1 x 30-round magazine, the nylon sling, a cleaning rod, cleaning kit, an oil bottle, and the small tool similar in appearance to an Allen wrench. Overall length is 35-3/8 inches. As is typical with Chinese copies of Russian weaponry, the bore is chrome lined. The bolt, bolt carrier, and gas piston are stainless steel. The receiver is made of 1.5mm thick stamped steel. This was somewhat unusual for the time as most AK47s used 1mm thick stamped steel. Only light machine gun versions such as the RPK used the thicker stampings. Although and extra 0.5mm might not sound like much, it ensures greater strength and rigidity, making the MAK90 more durable in the long run. While most people prefer a milled AK receiver over a stamped one, the stamped MAK90 was actually a better product than the milled version. This was due to a small quirk in the design of the milled receivers which used a unique shape to the rear known commonly as the “slant cut”. The stocks had to be made specifically for these receivers and they could not accept any of the aftermarket stocks available to AK47 owners. The stamped version, such as the one here, will accept any aftermarket stock. The trigger is the Chinese double hook type, rather than the usual single hook, so the trigger pull is very smooth. The bore is in superb shape. The stock and forend are in pristine condition, as is the butt pad. Every moving part on the MAK 90 feels tight. The receiver exhibits some light wear, exhibiting a few light scratches. There is a wear mark on the receiver created by operation of the rifle’s safety lever. This is common to used AK rifles and is unavoidable due to the safety lever’s design. There is a small spot of pitting on the gas block. The MAK-90 will use any 30 round AK47 magazine in production, with the possible exception of Magpul polymer magazines as these are too thick in the front. Bulgarian polymer magazines seem to fit well. AK rifles are known for their reliability and ease of maintenance, and this one here should be no less so. The Styrofoam insert is damaged on one side but can still store the accessories just fine.
