Description:
A fine folding-stock flintlock Blunderbuss, ca. late 18th century. Weight: 5 Lbs. OAL: 35”. Good, 3-stage barrel, octagonal at the breech, then round flaring to ellipsoidal at the muzzle. Large, highly relief-sculpted silver scene, at the breech. Replacement ramrod. Fully functional lock with nicely chiseled cock has a relief-sculpted silver scene on the lock plate with an indecipherable inscription. Brass mounts are nicely chiseled. The brass wrist escutcheon and the butt plate both have large, relief-carved, silver scenes. All of the large silver overlays are worn to varying degrees presumably from excessive polishing over the years. Plain refinished walnut stock is in good condition with a modern repair at the forend.
