Description:
Near perfect Remingtom No 1 Creedmore long Range 44/100 rifle. There are three spots near the muzzle where the custom, period carved wood rifle case has rubbed the blueing off the barrel, shown in the pics. Other wise the rifle is like new. The bore is bright and shinney. The stock wood is well figured. The users were so proud of this rifle that one of them Alonso D, McMaster- a Second Lieuteuant in the N Y National Guard- scratched his names on one side of the butt stock. Aditionally, similar information was placed in three places within the wooden clam shapped gun case, and a now tattered card is on the exterior of the case. Dr. C. E. Rider, a very distinguished physician, was the "co-user" of this rifle. One article describes "In shooting for the Wimbleton Prize at Creedmore on Wednesday, Dr. C. K. Rider made the second best score -135 to 137 by Selph of New Orleans. Distance 1000 yards." Additionally, I read that Maj Henry Fulton presented a "fine revolver to the Amateur Rifle Club that Rider won with a 46, 40=86" The date of the paper was 12/1/ '77. Dr. Rider and McMaster established a very successful wood flooring company--maybe the wooden case was an early project? I have 95 brass.
I have shot the gun out to 1000 yards but only danced around the target--only to find out once I get home the front sight was loose!! Privious to that I had hit first shot 100, 400, and within a few shots out to 800. Never got back with the sight propery tightened to understand if it was the fault of my 78 years or the sight. I believe the front sight is the second model? More info and pics available just text me. Any of you western Sharps shooters want to try it out? I'd gladly withdraw the sale to meet up with you: Venturino, Garbe, Gullo? I read about you guys and thought maybe it would be a more accurate test of the rifles capabilities.
