Description:
***   GREAT NEW PRICE   ***   Handsome William Rochester Pape 16 bore hammergun with loads of residual case coloring, best engraving, rebounding hammers, unique sidelever opening, and 30” highly figured Damascus barrels. Pape no. 3643 was made in 1883 by the gunmaker rightly called “The Purdey of the North”. Tight on face and with strong hammer springs. Weighs 6lbs 3oz. A perfect and elegant gun for quail, grouse, and woodcock.   ***   The 30” Damascus barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and are black powder proofed. They have extractors and are topped by a raised concave game style rib. The rib is inscribed “W.R. Pape, Newcastle – on – Tyne.” Typical for barrels of the black powder era the bores exhibit some mild pitting in places. The right barrel is bored 0.657 with a constriction of 0.000 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. The left barrel is also bored 0.657 and has a constriction of 0.002 for a somewhat tighter Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of figured English walnut and sport engraved heel and toe plates. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” by 1-1/4” by 1-3/4” which is set up to shoot rising birds. Cast off for the right hand shot. The stock has some handling marks and the checkering shows wear.   ***   You just don’t find 16 bore hammer guns from such a quality maker very often. Best engraving, lots of residual case coloring, and highly figured 30” Damascus barrels. Mechanically sound. Great gun for game or clays. You will be proud to carry this afield or uncase it at the range.   ***   This is classified as an Antique Firearm under federal law so no FFL required. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.
