Description:
Winchester Model 1894 Semi-Deluxe Rifle in 30-30 with a scarce antique Pre-1898 Serial Number in the 32,000 range.  Made around 1896-97.  Special order features include a pistol grip stock, flat shotgun  buttplate,  26" half octagon barrel, half magazine, and a takedown frame.  The takedown rifle concept was born out of travel by train and many hunters during the 1880's and 1890's were traveling West to go game hunting.  Once broken down, these rifles tucked neatly into a canvas carry case or luggage. Early style markings include 3 line tang marking, 2 line barrel address, and the decorative dipped border around the checkering on the hammer. The sights consist of a 2 Leaf Lyman No. 6 combination rear sight and a fancy Lyman Bead Front sight with 1886 patent date.  These sights were offered by Winchester and will on occasion letter to a rifle like this but more often they were installed by the Winchester Dealer for the customer.  Either way, these sights have been on this gun since new as there are no signs of  wear from a standard Winchester rear sight on the barrel.   The overall condition of this one grades to NRA Antique Fine Plus with 75% original blue remaining on the left side of the receiver and 35-40% thinning original blue on the left side. There is a small area of very light corrosion near the bottom that was most likely from deer blood from long ago but isn't overly distracting. My guess is this hunter carried this rifle in his left hand.  The barrel and magazine tube retain 65% soft fading original blue while the stock and forend show 85% original varnish that is somewhat thinning on the forend.  No chips, cracks, or repairs. Factory Assembly Numbers are matching on the Lower Tang, Stock, and Buttplate.  Bore is Very Good with strong rifling and no rings or bulges.  Antique, Pre-1898.  No FFL Required under Federal Law. Buyer must be 18 years of age.  No sales to NJ, NYC , Chicago, DC, or HI.  Sorry, No International Sales.   $50.00 shipping.
