Available for purchase is an extremely rare OEM Beretta 92SBWS with 93R style shoulder stock, 20-Round extended magazine, 15-round flush magazine, cleaning kit brushes, 92SB manual, and matching factory box. Also to be included, a letter copy dated July 9, 1987, written to a prominent collector by Beretta confirming that this item is 1 of only 30 that were ever produced. The letter indicates the serial number range of production for the pistols. It references the three serial numbers that were retained by Beretta, that they are a “unique, limited production run”, and that no further production of this model is scheduled.
The Los Angeles Police Department had originally contracted with Beretta to provide 30 of these semi-auto 92SB’s with 93R shoulder stock. They were to be used by the LAPD elite protection detail during the 1984 Summer Olympics. Beretta retained 3 of the pistols and delivered 27 to the LAPD. The pistols, however, did not arrive in time for use during the Olympics. The LAPD offered up some of the pistols for sale. It is not known how many they may have possibly kept, if any. Therefore, this 92SBWS is only 1 of 27 in circulation and possibly fewer than that available in private hands. These pistols are well known to the community of collectors and a top tier trophy for the serious Beretta collector.
This particular 92SBWS was sold to a Long Beach California dealer who had advertised it for sale as NIB in the Machine Gun News. The current seller of the firearm purchased it from that California dealer and has been the sole owner of the firearm since. This 92SBWS has remained in an unfired original condition during that time.
ATF had originally classified the firearm as a short barrel rifle. The NFA Technology Division added the 92SBWS to the Curio & Relics list, removing all restrictions to the pistol caused by NFA provisions. The pistol was no longer considered a short barrel rifle and exempted from the need of NFA registration. Specific page copies of that C&R update letter from NFA are included in the pictures showing exact reference under Section III of the NFA provisions removal and the specific serial number set of Beretta 92SBWS firearms that this pistol falls within. The pistol cannot be purcahsed through a C&R license, though, and will require a standard registration through your local FFL.
