This alteration uses the original cock which would have held a metal striker in the jams to strike the percussion cap. The 39" round .75 caliber smooth bore. Barrel has a good bore. Metal is a smooth brown patina. The lock is marked “Tower" with crown/ “GR" in the center and crown/ broad arrow to the right. Below that, it is marked “R.&R.S." The barrel has the usual military proofs. The stock is good with “RC" on the left flat and a period repaired crack on the left from the trigger to the breech. This repair brass reinforcements at the top and bottom. The forend appears to have been slightly shortened. The brad furniture is very good. There is moderate erosion around the bolster. The swivels are absent. The cleaning rod is present. Action functions correctly. This is a very interesting percussion conversion of a British military 3rd model Brown Bess.
