Description:
The Ruger GP100 revolver was introduced in 1985 as Ruger’s successor to the famous Security-/Service-/Speed-Six series of double action revolvers. Its design featured a reinforced Security Six frame and longer cylinder than most competitors, allowing hand loaders to use hot loaded .357 Magnum rounds. Loaders could either use a heavier powder charge or heavier, and therefore longer, bullet without compromising the powder load or bullet weight, or combination thereof. Another characteristic of the GP100’s design that allowed for stronger loads was a latch located in the crane to firmly lock the cylinder at front along with the lock at the rear, a feature used successfully on the earlier Ruger Redhawk (1979), which had itself taken the design concept from the Smith & Wesson Triple-Lock design discontinued all the way back in 1915. The Ruger GP100 has since become popular among hunters and trappers as a deer hunting/bear defense gun alongside the Redhawk and Super Redhawk. Because of the thickness of the frame and latch, the GP100 is widely considered to be one of the strongest medium frame revolvers ever made.
This GP100 is chambered for the .357 Magnum. Other models have been produced chambered for cartridges such as the .22LR, 44 Special, and 327 Federal Magnum. The revolver has a 4” barrel with a ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight. The factory Hogue rubber grip covers the backstrap providing an excellent level of recoil reduction. The finish is a satin stainless. This new-in-box revolver comes with a box, manual, and factory preservative bag. If you are looking for a strong, accurate target revolver, the GP100 is an excellent choice.
