This is the 338 on the 378 Weatherby case, shortened about 1/4 inch on Elmer Keith's insistence. This cartridge predates the Weatherby 338-378 full length version. This rifle has a 25 inch octagon barrel with milled on quarter rib and express sights plus the top tang extended over the comb for added strength. Note too the tang safety and squared off trigger guard, another feature of early Keith grade Champlin rifles. 14 inch pull over Leather covered recoil weighs 8 pounds, 10 ounces with scope.
