This is the third model of the Spanish Peabody's. It is some what rare as most of the 43 caliber guns were Rolling Blocks. It is in 43 Spanish caliber. After the War of Northern Aggression the U. S. Army called for submissions of cartridge rifles to replace the Springfield Musket. There were about 75 models submitted and the first round of tests eliminated over half of the guns from the competition. The tests continued until only one gun passed all of the tests. It was the Peabody, so the Army chose to adopt the trap door. It is a wonder that the North won the war. Check the ZOOM feature to make your evaluation of this gun.
