Description:
With About .75 cal.,and a 41” barrel showing an oxidized bore and erosion and damage right at the muzzle, with top-mounted stud for sighting and bayonet mounting. All of the iron surfaces are a brown and soft oxidized patina showing light pitting, more moderate in the area around the nipple barrel. There are scant remnants of a firing proof left of barrel at breech. The brass hardware is a dark ocher patina, the triggerguard with a Bess-like front extension. The American walnut stock rates about very good with overall dings, scratches and handling marks with scorching in the wood in the cap splash area, the buttplate fairly proud, the stock with deep pronounced comb flutes and a few drying cracks. An antique ramrod is included. The bands are somewhat loose Appears to be a contract late Brwon Bess by stock form, hardware, and lockplate. After the American Revolution any gun was used as a militia musket and often these were converted to percussion in the South during the Civil War and used for up to three years in battels between the states.
