Description:
The RFB was originally introduced to the American market in 2008. “RFB” stands for Rifle Forward-ejecting Bullpup. It is the first successful American-built bullpup rifle, wherein the action is located behind the trigger assembly. The purpose of this is to reduce the overall length of the rifle compared to a conventional rifle. For example, at 27.5 inches in length, the RFB is still shorter than an AR-10 with a short 16” barrel. The RFB uses a tunnel-type ejection port were an empty casing is ejected from the front of the rifle rather than the sides. For this to work, the RFB’s uniquely proprietary bolt has dual extractors that both extract the empty brass from the chamber and send it down the ejection chute (i.e., the tunnel) as the bolt reciprocates. The RFB’s is designed to be very robust and handle all kinds of abuse to ensure it reliably operates anytime the trigger is pulled regardless of environmental conditions. While the rifle weighs 8.7 lbs. empty, this is still less than an M1 Garand or an FN FAL rifle, and the RFB is far better balanced as well. Speaking of the FAL, the RFB is compatible with metric-pattern FAL magazines, although it ships from the factory with a polymer 20-round magazine. Compared to the FAL, the RFB does NOT require that the magazines be rocked into place – they can simply be inserted straight into the magazine well until they latch into place. The length of the RFB’s barrel is a respectable 18.5 inches, and it uses a twist rate of 1 in 11.25 inches. The gas system is adjustable to allow the user to reduce the recoil while maintaining reliability, not to mention that this ability allows for a wide range of ammunition quality to be used in the rifle. It also allows the RFB to be used with a suppressor. To avoid the sloppy trigger normally found in bullpup rifles, the RFB uses a floating linkage bar between the sear and hammer, letting the sear remain above the trigger. This keeps the trigger pull down to a very respectable 5 lbs. with a clean break. Although it does not come with iron sights, the RFB has a long picatinny rail up top making it optic ready. The RFB’s controls, specifically the safety lever, bolt release, and magazine release are ambidextrous allowing the rifle to be used by both left- and right-handed shooters with ease. The rifle shown is new in the box. There is one factory error in which the red paint on right-side “F” has spread outside the boundaries of the letter and onto the frame.
