Description:
Steyr Diamler Puch- Steyr Mannlicher . This rifle is chambered for the 8X68S cartridge that is very popular worldwide. The cartridge was first introduced in 1940 by RWS and was thought by Barnes to be a derivative of a Vom Hofe design. It is loaded in a variety of bullet weights including 150,170,200 and 220 grain and is compared to the 338 Winchester and the 8MM Remington Magnum. It is very popular in Europe and Africa for medium to large sized game. It is a fast and very potent round with a muzzle velocity of around 3000FPS depending on the bullet with between 68-80 grains of powder landing it in the same class yet superior to the Weatherby Magnums and the .300H&H and Win. The action is very clean with a 1950 style straight down paddle bolt handle, push forward safe mounted on the upper right hand side of the action in a convenient position, factory original scope mounts for a very tight and quick QD setup, double set triggers, the rifle is easily removed from the stock via turning the floor plate, forward ring is stippled and marked "Made in Austria, Original. Mannlicher Schoenauer Model NO 8X68S" The barrel is 26" with blue in near perfect condition, bore is near perfect with strong rifling and no chamber or bore fouling. The rear sight has been filled with a blank to facilitate the use of a longer scope, the front sight is hooded, barrel band sling swivel. The stock is a traditional style with a short fore end. This style is lesser seen than the full length Mannlicher stocks. The chequering and finish are in very good condition with no cracking behind the rear tang, the finish looks to be original to the rifle, 13 1/4" length of pull to a black replacement pad. Every one of these I have seen has had a pad. I do not know if these came with a plate from the factory, however I suspect all of them were padded with this being a later replacement. The scope is a Pecar of Berlin 3-7X35 with a duplex crosshair reticle, scope blue is good and the optics are clear. 8lbs 12oz 0301631 CHSSDP $3900.00
