Description:
H Mahillon of Brussels Belgium .475 No.2 Nitro Express Ejector Double Rifle. The action is a boxlock with double triggers and ejectors in near new condition, most of the original case colors remain, open scroll engraved, neat detail where the balls of the fences are tapered to the barrels in a really attractive way, a robust action that fits the barrel profile well, disk set strikers, Purdey underbolting with a square Greener crossbolt. The barrels are 26" with good blue and perfect bores that show no discernible wear, one standing and two folded rear sights, rollover hooded front sight with pop up moon, the rib is a more than a quarter with a really attractive profile and the sights naturally come to the eye when the rifle is shouldered, very nice balance. The Proofs are Belgian 475 No.2 Blindee, 11.8, for the common 3 1/2" case, 85 gr load with 480 grain bullet. This caliber was introduced when the .450 caliber rifles were banned in India and the Sudan as per Taylor, he thought it was a good killer. Boddington thinks it a good serviceable heavy double and says that Carl Akely and Professional hunter Ian MacFarlane both use or used it with good result. Brass is relatively common as are bullets. In "Safari Rifles" from 1990, highly recommended, he calls it 2200 fps at the muzzle and 5170 foot pounds of energy. The stocks are in good original condition with light handling marks  and some carrying wear to the chequering, 14 3/4" length of pull to a probably non-original Silvers pad with black spacers, trap grip cap, splinter fore end. 11 lbs 7oz, A really nice rifle!
