Description:
Mannlicher Schoenauer model 1950. This rifle is in wonderful original condition with original rings and bases, original factory engraving and looks to be unrestored and hunted very little in its life. The floorplate is gamescene engraved with a leaping Roe Deer, the balance in oak leaf and stippled and marked " Fritz Schilling Frankfurt" And then there is the Steyr reticle logo. The Model 1950 is very close in form to the 1903 and especially the system 1930. I am not super knowledgeable about these rifles... I believe the main differences between these and the models from 1952 on are the addition of a push forward side safe and the bolt handle is swept back on the 1952 and from then on. These rifles all feature a rotary magazine that hold 5 cartridges and one additional can be loaded directly. McIntosh and others have claimed that this is the smoothest type of bolt action design due to the magazine design allowing the cartridges to be perfectly aligned with the bore. I have personally found these rifles to be super accurate to a one. With regards to the engraving: I can find no mention of a deluxe model in the catalogues I have at hand. I have believed this was done for the individual retailers and on special order from customers.
The action on this rifle is in near perfect shape with Steyr factory QD scope mounts which work by the front base of the scope being inserted into a barrel band base in front of the front ring of the receiver. As you press the scope straight down in line with the barrel, the rear base of the scope snaps into a corresponding base to the left of the rear ring. This system is low profile and attractive, easy to see through and use the open sights with the scope removed, and is very tight preserving accuracy. The action features a wing safe at the top of the rear bolt body, double set triggers "Hair Trigger in the 1950 catalogue!" and the Mannlicher Schoenauer take down system which works by sliding the floorplate to the right and removing the magazine. The engraving runs from the forward ring to the rear tang of the action and is oak leaf and background. The front ring is engraved with the following "Made in Austria Original Mannlicher Schoenauer Mod 1950 Kal 270. Floorplate and triggerguard are both coin finish with full coverage engraving. The barrel is 60CM or 23 1/2" with as new blue and bore, 1 standing and 1 folded rear sight, barrel band small bead front sight. The stock is the "Half stock" model as per the 1950 catalogue with near perfect factory chequering and finish. There have no repairs or oil soaking and the stock shows only the lightest of handling marks, 13" length of pull to a factory plate, 8lbs 9oz, the scope is a Kahles 4X60 which has cloudy optics and the rear ring has a flat spot. The scope has engraving from another great gunmaker, Sajowitz of Vienna. Please send any offers via e-mail. 010011 WSSSDP $6200.00
