Description:
Boss & Co 73 St Jame's St London address, Built 1870, the gun has been professionally restored at some point to a high condition with very well done work. The action is clean and tight on the face, locks are nice with nice Sumner engraving that is crisp and sharp, hammers rebound evenly, firing pins retract as they should, all furniture has been rust blued in the correct manner, wood to metal fit is good, all numbers match, screw slots are good and indexed correctly, unmarred including the hinge pin slot. The barrels are steel with good blue, though a bit duller than I would like, the maker's initials are faint and I believe them to be either F.B. or F.E.. ribs are tight and show no solder along any seam, ring well, black powder proofs, 13 bore proof, diameters show the barrels to be currently in proof: .721 Right and .721 Left, 2 1/2" chamber and chokes: .003 Left and .025 Right, they will pattern like Imp Cyl and Mod. Both bores are marked the length with only the faintest of fouling or pitting that would clean up easily as the walls are .030 at minimum in both. Send them to Kirk Merrington and they will come back new. The hook and the cam surfaces for the Jones Underlever are both clean and show no signs of having been welded or peened. The stocks are both replacement with nice figure, the execution was done in a period correct style, locks are a bit proud at the back, the dimensions are modern: 14 1/2" length of pull, 1 1/2" drop at comb and 2 1/4" drop at heel, chequering on both ends is by the same hand and remains sharp and well done, balance is just forward of the pin. 6lbs 8oz Consignment, please make any offers via email. 028451 MSSSSDP $8500.00
