Description:
This rifle was built in 1981 by the late master gunmaker MV Highsmith in Memphis. It was engraved by Corky Francolini, master engraver for Colt. It was commissioned for a one-gun Africa hunt. The action was completely reworked and giver a marvelous crisp trigger pull. The rifle was built by Ruger as a ..270 Winchester. I was told by the original owner that he purchased the rifle new and had it rebored by Hart barrels and rechambered to .30/06. You can see the original SR proof mark on the left side of the barrel ahead of the action. After the African hunt the rifle was stocked in English Walnut (Juglans Regia) in an elegant classic pattern. The buttpad was recently replaced as the original was flattened from the rifle resting on its butt. The swivel loops are English hook type style. Or the tie-on type sling can be employed. I have both and I prefer the tie- on type because it is completely quiet. The barrel band sling swivel loop and banded front sight are from Griffiin and Howe. The gold bands and gold filled lettering as well as the engraving are all by Mr . Frankolini. The rifle was expertly rust blued by Mr Highsmith and the lever was color casehardened by the Color Case Company. Mr Highsmith even sculpted the factory scope rings to add one more touch of elegance. The scope is a classic Weaver 2.5-1 with a custom German reticle. This reticle has three heavy posts with an aiming point on the tip of the vertical post. This rifle is very accurate and has accounted for a lot of game. This is a terrific offhand rifle and is perfect for hunting. It is one of my favorite guns. I've owned it for many years but I have only used it in nice weather. It shoots 165 grain bullets well, and I even have a load for 110 grain varmint bullets. FFL required. 3 day no shoot inspection.
