Davis" The writing is faded , but visible under magnification General George Thomas was the Union general ,who was praised by president to be James Garfield , (and thus earning the nickname "Rock of Chickamuaga") for his actions ,that prevented a helpless rout of the Union troops during the Battle of Chickamuaga.
