Description:
Original 1816 contract flintlock made at Mill Creek, Pa. marked  "US, D. Nipps, Phila" and "1840" behind hammer.
Belgian type arsenal cone conversion done in the 1850's with many stocked in Southern arsenals pre-Civil War.
Ramrod, barrel tampion, worm, and bayonet are all correct. Lock, hammer, bands, and barrel all smooth patina without pitting.
"F. Reynolds" block stamped behind trigger guard tang. Premium grade marbled walnut stock is unusual on these '16's. Old piece missing behind nipple.
This is an excellent pre-Civil War smooth bore musket as converted and has seen little action. Bayonet, tampion and worm included.
