Description:
Sugiura Shiki 7.65mm pistol. The Sugiura Shiki pistols are extremely rare; they were made in a plant in Manchuria (mainland China). The first 3,000 +/- were made for the Japanese occupation troops prior to Japan’s surrender in WWII. A very few examples of those pistols have made their way to major houses in the USA and in spite of their poor-to-good condition they have commanded upper 4-figure to lower 5-figure prices.
This pistol was made a few years after the Japanese surrender, manufactured by the Chinese Communists in the same plant and it is noted that fewer of the Chinese issued pistols were made than the Japanese. Probable manufacture date is between 1948-1950.
As you can see by the photos is the extremely fine original condition that remains on this pistol and note on the left side are the two Chinese Comm proof marks. Those proof marks are not on the pistols made for the Japanese and conversely the Japanese pistol have specific Japanes characters on the left side frame left of the serial number.
On an RIA you tube video they claim (at that time) that there were 6 known Japanese versions and 4 know Chi-Comm versions in existence. Regardless, if those numbers are correct of not this is an extremely rare pistol and most impressive is its fantastic original condition.
I acquired this pistol from a collector who has had it in his collection for since 1961; 61 years!!
