Description:
The EAA / Girsan MC P35 is a faithful copy of the Browning Hi Power, one of the most famous pistols in military history. The Hi Power was the first successful double-stack pistol and has seen service all over the world since 1935. Originally designed by John Moses Browning in the early 1920’s, the prototype was refined over time into the early 1930’s. As Browning had passed away in 1926, the pistol continued to be refined by Dieudonne Saive and he modified the pistol with a staggered column magazine of his design. This gave the pistol an unusually high capacity for the time. The pistol was finally put into production in 1935 as the Grande Puissance Model of 1935. The term Grande Puissance literally means “High Power”. Although rejected by the French military in favor of an inferior design, dozens of other countries adopted the High power. It was used by both Allied and Axis powers during World War Two. It was thought of highly enough by the Germans that they forced the FN factory to continue production of the pistol under the designation of Pistole 640(b) (where “b” stands for “belgisch” or “Belgian”). It was frequently seen in the hands of the Waffen-SS and the Fallschirmja?ger (paratroops). On the Allied side, it was used by the Special Operations Executive (SOE), the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Special Air Service (SAS). The primary reason for this of course was the pistol’s high capacity and reliability in extreme conditions. The pistol is still in use in many places around the world. The MC P35 is closely based on the Browning Mk III version, featuring its ambidextrous safety. Barrel length is 4-5/8 inches long with an overall length of 7-3/4 inches. The steel frame gives the pistol some heft, but the overall weight is only 1.8 lbs. This example of the MC P35, which is new in the box, has checkered wooden grips. The magazines are produced by Mec-Gar, a company which produces magazines for other manufacturers such as Beretta. They have a capacity of 15 rounds, 2 additional rounds over the originals. Bear in mind that, like the original P35, the MC P35 has a magazine disconnect safety. Nonetheless, the MC35 is an excellent pistol and a much more affordable option compared to an original Hi Power, while maintaining a high level of quality all of its own.
