St Lewis, Mo 1871-1900 The gun offered here is marked “ECMA Co. ST Lewis, M0” on each side of the action and the original butt plate marked “MEACHAM”. I believe this gun to have been made by N.R. Davis on their hammerless gun patent of Aug. 3, 1886. The serial number is “41” marked on the action, barrels, and fore-end. It is in good condition. About 0.003” off face, but a shim at the hinge brings it back on face. The stock is solid with a bolt through the head of the stock. The Damascus barrels retain some finish and are free of dents inside and out. Barrel rib is marked “Finest Damascus” and has the barrel maker’s mark “Crown over D”. Bores are good. Shoot with light shells. This was a quality gun – well-made and finished with border engraving and vignettes on the action and trigger guard. This is an antique. ECMA (E. C. Meacham Arms) was in St. Lewis, Mo. from about 1871-1900. They sold a wide verity of firearms – handguns, rifles and shotguns mostly made by American companies or imported. It has been reported that some were made on site employing foreign workers.
