Description:
With about .42 cal.,and a 25 1/2” octagon barrel turned for starter (none present) with an oxidized bore. The barrel and heavy iron frame are a dull pewter patina with scattered light oxidation and tool marks, especially in the area of the breech. There is an older German silver globe front sight present tang holes for a no-longer-present aperture sight. Top flat is marked “JB Knight/Cabot”. The simple single spur triggerguard is German silver as are the crescent butt and toeplates and simple pendulum style patchbox. The stock appears to be of English walnut with tight grain and a left side cheekrest. It rates perhaps good plus to very good with a 5” crack emanating from the rear of the frame just above the cheekpiece and a prominent check missing in the same area. The lock functions mechanically however the spring is light, the buttstock is loose and the front ramrod thimble has come unsoldered; a replacement ramrod is included. It would appear Knight was active in 1871-79
