Description:
Lightweight 12 bore hammergun by William Rochester Pape with its signature pushforward thumb lever opening. Peninsula style back action locks and low, nicely sculpted rebounding hammers that sit below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked. The action can be opened when the hammers are cocked because of the location of the sidelever. Gun is beautifully engraved and the engraving is crisp. Highly figured European walnut stock and forearm have been professionally refinished and the checkering refreshed. Pape no. 5522 was made in 1882 by this very high quality maker who was known as “The Purdey of the North”. The 6lb weight makes this an easy double to carry for a day afield and quick handling when a bird flushes.   ***   The “quick on target” 27” nitro steel “invisibly” sleeved barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and have been recently reblacked along with the hammers, toplever, trigger guard and other pieces. The bores are shiny and bright. The bluing is rich and deep. The right barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.007 for a Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. The left barrel is bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.013 for a tight Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are well figured. The finish is recent and the checkering is crisp. The forearm has a Deeley release. Stock dimensions 14-1/2” by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   A high quality  and elegant hammer double from a renowned gunmaker. It’s lightweight and 12 bore firepower make it a lethal upland gun. Great for quail, grouse, and woodcock. Great fun at the range. Don’t let it get away.   ***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.
