Description:
This is a gorgeous early assisted opener sidelock ejector single trigger rifle that is a bit of a mystery. The original English barrels are chambered in 32 Spl (engraved on the underrib), so proofed, and engraved "Non Fouling Smooth Oval Bore Rifling" even though the rifling is conventional. The London nitro proof marks indicate only "303" which suggest this barrel set was originally chambered for the British round which shoots a slightly smaller dia bullet (.311) so it's possible the barrels were rebored and rechambered for the American 32 Spl round which takes a bullet of .321 diameter. If so it was done a long time ago as the bores are not new. The bores slug .320 on this barrel set. The addl barrel set looks newer, also has conventional rifling, Belgian proofs, chambered for 375 H&H but also engraved "invisible oval rifling" in the identical italicized font! The action is proofed twice, once in London and once in Liege. Regardless, this is a delightful lightweight and versatile setup. 8.5 lbs, LOP 13.5 through extension and rubber pad, drops 2 1/4" and 3" to the original buckhorn sights (on the 32 barrel set).. UPDATE per the current owners of Chas Lancaster "The actual ledger describes the calibre as .301 26ins barrel;
K.M.Pope had the rifle re-barrelled in November 1904 in America;
E.E Colley had extra pair 375 H&H fl. magnum barrels made for the rifle October 1959"

So interesting fullly documented rifle here.
