Description:
The Taurus Judge caused quite a stir when it was originally introduced in 2006. The concept of a large frame revolver that could fire both the .45 Colt and a 410 Bore shotshell must have seemed truly bizarre to most. Although the Judge was preceded by the MIL Thunder 5 revolver, most of the gun buying public have never even heard of that gun, given its low production numbers. The Judge utilizes shallow rifling in the bore to avoid violating the terms of a “short-barreled shotgun” as defined by the National Firearms Act of 1934. While some might complain that the shallow rifling affects accuracy when shooting .45 Long Colt from the Judge, it should be remembered that the Judge was intended specifically for close range self-defense, particularly with the use of .410 shells. It is not meant to be a match grade firearm. The standard Judge has 5 chambers that allow it to shoot not only the .45 Colt and 2.5-inch .410 shotshells, but also the .45 Schofield and the rare .45 Auto-Rim as well. The latter is more of a collector’s item, but the Schofield is still produced by some manufacturers thanks to Cowboy Action Shooting competitions. The Magnum Judge is a version of the standard model with a lengthened cylinder in order to shoot the longer 3-inch .410 shells. These usually hold one or two additional pellets of buckshot (for a max total of 5) compared to the shorter 2.5-inch shells (3 to 4 pellets). The Raging Judge Magnum is the heavy super-sized version of the Judge with a 6-shot cylinder and capable of firing the powerful .454 Casull (a magnum in everything except its name) as well as the 3-inch .410 shell and .45 Long Colt. The Judge revolver shown here is the special Executive Grade version. It is a significant upgrade from the standard Taurus Judge, being assembled by hand in a separate room by a team of specially trained gunsmiths. This ensures that the fit and finish is of the highest quality. The action is hand tuned, providing the shooter with a smooth double action trigger pull, an important consideration for rapid shots. The single action trigger pull has a crisp, clean break for when a precision shot is more important than getting multiple rounds down range. The Judge Executive Grade has a hand-polished satin finish that is exquisite and stands out compared to the usual Taurus revolver, even comparing favorably to the finish of higher end Smith & Wesson revolvers. Rounding out its high end appearance, the Judge Executive Grade is equipped with a set of presentation grade checkered wooden grips. The front sight uses a brass rod rather than the usual fiber optic common to most revolvers and semi-autos found on today’s market. On top of all this, the Judge Executive Grade comes in a very nice Vault hard case (by Pelican) rather than the usual Taurus box. This Judge is brand new in the box and ready to go.
