Description:
This appears to be a factory experimental pre war Stevens mod 87 .22lr cal rifle. Barrel is only marked as to caliber with receiver having a large marking on the top rear TEST. No markings as to manufacturer or model. Additionally, the rifle is equipped with an older target scope which looks like a Winchester scope, in Winchester marked rings, etc. Front scope block mounts in the rear sight dovetail on the barrel (not usually seen). Caliber marking is for .22 long rifle only - no shorts or longs. Stock has a surface crack on left side with an early repair - otherwise the entire rifle is excellent overall. I would also guarantee this rifle was built at the factory for some type of testing before WWII. Perhaps a prototype of something they wished to manufacture. Probably the scope, rings, and bases are worth more than we are asking for the whole enchilada.
