Description:
"This little Smith & Wesson Model 1 is the first revolver manufactured by Smith and Wesson. Production of the 2nd issue spanned from 1860-1868. The model 1 was the first successful firearm to use rimfire cartridges rather than packing black powder and a musket ball down the muzzle. It is a single-action, tip-up revolver holding seven .22 short stack black powder cartridges." This particular revolver (serial no. 28,5xx) is an early 2nd issue probably manufactured in 1862 or so. Popular with Civil War soldiers the Model 1 was purchased privately by Union troops for personal protection.

This revolver is in overall very good antique condition retaining about 95% of very early re-nickel finish. Barrel markings are strong as shown, patent dates on cylinder are partially visible upon close inspection. The right hand side pearl grip has a chip or flake on the bottom. The extractor rod is either a rare factory variant or a replacement. Bore has a fair amount of pitting but the rifling is still present and easily visible. The trigger and hammer mechanisms function. The hammer is tight and cocks as it should however the cylinder spins freely.

Anyway, a nice representative Civil War era Smith and Wesson revolver that could be rare. Add $25. P&H in the lower 48 states. Shipped only where legal and to an FFL licensee.
